Local Anemone, Ranunculus and Lambs Ear

Now through October many of the flowers that I use will come from local growers.  Not only does this make sense environmentally but the flowers are devastatingly beautiful.  Late last week I got a stunning delivery of ranunculus, anemones and lambs ear from Andrea Gagnon of LynnVale Studios.  Order for this week includes more plus some gorgeous tall viburnum... I am anxiously awaiting local peonies which should be available in the next couple of weeks. IMG_0665

Touches from our garden in flower arrangements...

Loving this time of year when I can add touches from our garden to flower arrangements.  This weekends wedding will be a mix of local tulips and ranunculus, flowers from far away with a generous amount of lemon balm and mint from our garden.  This sample from earlier this week has beautiful roses and hydrangea from far away, local euphorbia–– and helleborus and chocolate vine both from our garden. raspberrycenterpiece

Pear Blossoms

Gorgeous pink cherry blossoms get all the attention this time of year.  The pear blossoms are a favorite of mine.   I always get excited when they bloom maybe in part because I know that the cherry blossoms are just around the corner.  Maybe because the blossoms are white and I am always partial to white flowers. John and I spotted these and a bunch of others on a walk a couple days ago.  Even though there are tons in our neighborhood I still miss the huge 5 trees that were recently cut down because of the construction on P street between 7th and 9th streets. pearblossom6 pearblossom8pearblossom3
